Members of the Royal Norfolk and Suffolk Yacht Club in the late 1900's had the naval
architect to the King of Belgium, Linton Hope design a yacht that was capable of
sailing inshore off Lowestoft and also suitable for sailing on the Broads. This
was named the Broads One Design (more often than not referred to as the Brown Boat).
Thirty one of the design were built in wood and there has been a revival of the
class since the introduction of the new boats made of fibre glass. Numbers now exceeding
eighty.
